*** UNDER CONSTRUCTION*** Every school is different, some schools have budgets to support Computing, others buy i-Pads and think they are all set with nothing left for apps or training. Fortunately there is a wealth of training options out there, from the free to the costly and here I hope to share those with you, alongside some things I've learnt. Code Club An organisation which provides after school clubs for schools for free using trained computing volunteers. They also provide basic training for free for programmes such as Scratch and can be a good starting point to get that training Computing ball rolling. I also used this to see how staff responded to the training and if their confidence matched their audits. This is great for schools with small (or non-existent) Computing budgets who are in need of the basics. The after school clubs also work well for raising the profile of Computing and can be the start of establishing Computing Champions amongst the children in your school. Apple Workshops Apple provide free hour long workshops in store for you to get up to speed on a range of Apple programmes, apps and devices. You can also book workshops for classes of up to 20 on a specific area of choice here. This is great if you have staff members who want to try iMovie but who haven't previously used an iPad or want to evidence work from digital lessons but aren't sure how to screenshot or send documents via iCloud or Airplay. Eventbrite There a many hub meetings or skills training available for free or a small fee on Eventbrite. I recommend searching 'computing' 'coding' 'hub' 'microbit' 'python' 'scratch' 'stem' to find some of the best results. If you want to host your event you can also advertise it here and allocate tickets- great for primary hubs or schools within a close locality to share expertise. Meet up Meet up is a platform for people with similar interests to meet with an assigned outcome. Here you can find groups which can help you to develop knowledge and skills. You can go along to gain knowledge or information with no pressure to know everything and you can reach out to the groups if you just want to attend to learn. Most meet ups are free, some are charged and some you have to apply to join the groups. Online Training: Google Digital Garage Google are now offering certified courses free online, I have just started a course and will keep you updated on what it is offering for training. Pay for it There are many great training providers out there, who not only know their stuff, but they also provide great support and advice for how schools can deliver the new computing curriculum. I'm happy to share the companies and organisations who I have used at my schools in London but please email me for this information ☺️ I am not endorsed by any company.
